Alpha Males

There are many different hierarchies amongst males, both human and animal; two of the most common are alpha males and beta males.

Alpha Males

Most of us have seen pictures of an alpha male ape, bigger and more frightening than the other males, and demanding submission of the lesser males.  The alpha male is in charge of the troupe, and it will protect them and breed with them.  Human alpha males have similar traits; they tend to be leaders; they take charge of their emotions; they are often more physical, both in strength and forcefulness.

The alpha male is often more attractive to women, especially women who like having someone to protect them and make them feel safe and secure.  Natural selection also makes alpha males more attractive for breeding with, all animals look for the strongest, healthiest male to breed with to ensure that their offspring have the best possible chance of survival.

Beta Males

Beta males are considered followers; they often have a passive-aggressive personality, asking for what they want indirectly and maybe performing favors or bribing people to achieve their desired outcome.  The beta male is often considered to be sneaky, if they need to ask someone to perform a task, and know that they will get abused for the asking, they will get someone else to ask for them, or say they are asking on some other persons behalf.  Women with strong personalities are often more attracted to beta males, and the beta male is entirely comfortable with these alpha females.

Risks

The alpha male is the man who will take the majority of the risks in life; they will expose themselves to attacks of others and confidently face any threat to his tribe.  Alpha males often have a “don’t give a shit” attitude, and anything bad said against his tribe, either is ignored or meet with a fist.  The beta male will stand behind the alpha male, providing support, maybe whispering in the alpha male’s ear, but always playing it safe.

Romance

Have you ever watched some skinny, pimple-faced, average looking guy pick up the hottest lady in the bar, that is what alpha males do.  The beta male will be with drinking with his friends, watching the alpha males perform.

Clothing

Alpha males are always proud of their bodies and love to strut their stuff, and they will wear sexy brief underwear.  The beta males will tend to wear less revealing underwear and prefer for others not to see how big their junk is.

What is it all about?

The real difference between an alpha and a beta male is their self-image.  An alpha male will look in the mirror and see an amazing, hot, sexy, desirable, smart man staring back at him; a beta male will see a crooked nose, wrinkles on the forehead, podgy, undesirable man staring back at him.  The alpha male has an “I am good enough” attitude, while the beta male has an “I am not good enough” attitude.

Can you change?

It is unlikely that you can move from being a beta male to an alpha male, but you certainly can change from thinking “I am not good enough” or “I don’t deserve” to thinking “I am good enough”, “I am smart enough”, “I deserve”.  I watched a free webinar about this and discovered that often I was accepting less than ideal in my life simply because I didn’t deserve better.  The webinar was by Marisa Peer, here is a link to the webinar.
